Programs in Turkey

In Turkey, HasNa is executing its model of combining conflict resolution and professional skills training through programs that involve a variety of participants from the southeastern region. HasNa has trained businessmen, rural women, farmers, farm extension workers, English language teachers, chairmen and members of the local water users association, and government representatives from the region. HasNa’s programs in Turkey bring together individuals from different backgrounds and offer a chance for them to interact and acquire useful technical and communication skills at the same time. HasNa is still in contact with 95% of its former participants and encourages them to network among themselves, as well as implement follow-up projects from their training. To ensure programs are well functioning and effective, all of HasNa’s programs, regardless of size, receive a professional post-completion evaluation.

Programs in Cyprus

Recognizing that journalism and the media have a tremendous capacity to affect bi-communal activities in Cyprus, the Cyprus Project Initiative brings together young Cypriot journalists from the Northern and Southern parts of the island. With a view advancing cross-cultural understanding, the Initiative requires participants to interact daily over a two-week period through programs and activities designed to develop objective journalistic perspectives among the participantsfrom both communities. The Initiative also calls for bi-monthly meetings in order to build on the ideas and energy from the initial two-week period. These meetings have resulted in a number of collaborative projects, such as HasNaJournal, an online newsletter.
